DANIEL MELIM (Portugal, 1982) BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Melim(1982, Portugal), has been working with Western Visual Art’s representational tradition. He has developed a Painting work that is as much about the painting´s “skin” (his paintings are only paint or acrylic membrane, with no other support) as it is about a certain connection with a physically present object/model. At the same time, he has expanded a certain encyclopediac vocation of his Drawing to the point of developing image-making-situations that include the will of more than just one person.
In 2006 he graduated in Fine Arts-Painting from Lisbon University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. From that on year he has had several solo/collective shows in Lisboa, Porto and Rio de Janeiro.
In 2007 he was a chosen finalist of the EDP New Artist’s Award. In 2011 he won the Fidelidade Mundial Young Painters Prize, the main Young Painters prize in Portugal. He also has on-going individual writing projects. The full scope of his work can be seen at: www.danielmelim.com
