Initiation of the National Stop TB Partnership

Who took the initiative to promote the partnering process to build a National Stop TB Partnership? When did it happen?


In november 2004, institutions of the civil society (BEMFAM – Bem Estar Familiar do Brasil, Associação Damien do Brasil, Fórum Estadual de ONG´s na Luta contra a Tuberculose no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Sociedade Beneficente São Camilo – Pastoral da Saúde) and the Ministry of Health/ TB Program started the process to build the National Partnership – Parceria Brasileira Contra a Tuberculose – Stop TB Brazil.

Objectives are:

  • to control TB in Brazil in partnership with the National Programme for TB control in its economic, social and political aspects both in the public and private sctors

  • to disseminate information in order to mobilize the public opinion to achieve the targets set by WHO and Stop TB Partnership

  • to initiate strategies to guarantee the human rights of affected people according with the principles and recommendations of the Sistema Unico de Saude.

As of now partners carry out different activities. An operational plan including tasks, role of partners, planned costs, available resources, unmet needs is under negotiation.
